AngloGold Ashanti’s Tropicana Joint Venture (TJV) comprises more than 13,000 square kilometres of tenements stretched along more than 300 kilometres of the ancient collision zone between the Yilgarn Craton and the Albany-Fraser Province. The Tropicana Gold Project, located at the northern end of the leases, was discovered in 2005 after AngloGold Ashanti followed up an unexplained gold-in-soil anomaly evident in public domain regional data collected in the 1990s.

Located 250km East of Kalgoorlie and 100km north of the trans-national rail line, the location is very remote, the climate is arid, and the terrain is harsh, with sand dunes and sparse vegetation.
Sandfire Resources NL became the continents latest copper–gold producer in February, 2012 following the commencement of mining at the company’s flagship De Grussa Copper –Gold project. This project is located within Sandfire’s 100% owned Doolgunna project; a 400km2 tenement package in one of Western Australia’s most exciting new mineral provinces, the Bryah Basin, located 900km North-East of Perth and 150km north of the regional town of Meekatharra.
