Throughout Australia, there have been many different drilling techniques used for a complete range of operations. Here at Bostech Drilling, we are the specialists in drilling and we have assisted with countless projects over the years. To help you better understand the different drilling techniques used by Australian operations, our knowledgeable team has compiled a summary for you below.
Some of the key drilling techniques which have been used throughout Australia include:
The process of air core drilling will usually involve either a three-bladed steel or tungsten drill bits which work by digging holes into unconsolidated ground. High-pressure air is the powerhouse behind the air core method as it forces the drill into the ground. Air core drilling has become increasingly popular in recent years because of its efficiency and high degree of safety.
Here at Bostech Drilling, we are a leader in the air core drilling field. We purchased our first air core system back in 1987 and over the years we have pioneered a range of adjustments to further improve the air core drilling process.
A rotary air blast drill, more commonly referred to as RAB, is an older drilling technique. RAB is a down-the-hole vertical drilling process and it uses a hammer action to drive into the rock surface. The sample quality provided by RAB is less accurate than that of air core drilling and this is why it isn’t as commonly used.
Reverse circulation drilling (RC) uses dual wall drill rods that include an outer drill rod and an inner tube. This particular drilling technique is ideal for drill cuttings that need to be continuously transported back the surface. Here at Bostech Drilling, we also offer Slim Line RC.
